Telehealth appointments are available.
Alison has worked with people with persistent pain for many years and is currently seeing patients on telehealth. The sessions can be helpful for anyone struggling with pain but is particularly aimed at helping people to implement skills to help reduce the frequency and effect of pain flare ups.
Movement and exercise is one of the more effective tools that we can offer for the treatment of chronic pain. Getting started can be tricky and finding the right place to start is important. Having someone who understands pain is helpful to get the balance right.
In addressing some of the factors that can cause flare ups, people can learn to be less worried about the presence of pain and feel empowered to do things that will reliably help bring pain levels down for themselves. Over time, many people find that the frequency and degree of flare ups can be reduced with better management, meaning that pain is less intrusive in life. Engaging with this approach does not mean that your pain is not real or is in your head, rather it acknowledges that pain is often difficult to treat and that sometimes we need to consider more than just the anatomy of a pain event in order to treat it well.
